KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – From the very small miniature horses and donkeys to the very large Percheron drafts, Lake County Horse Council’s third annual Horse Faire at the Kelseyville Pear Festival this year was perhaps bigger and better than years past.
With more paddocks and more horses than in previous years and an over-the-top Kiddie Korral, hundreds of festival goers and families with children filtered through the Horse Faire over the course of the day.

Lake County Horse Council Announces New Executive

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Dr. Glenn Benjamin of Upper Lake has been elected as the Lake County Horse Council’s interim president, following the resignation of Virginia Vovchuk. Dr. Benjamin, Cornell University graduate and practicing veterinarian for 52 years, began his career in California as a restorative equine surgeon. One of Safari West’s founders in Santa Rosa, and proud owner of a herd of Percherons, Benjamin, and his wife Dana DiRicco, care for and show their beautiful draft horses all over the Western U.S. and Canada, and among the herd are grand champions and reserve champions at Grass Valley and Calgary competitions. Highland Springs Recreation Area Off-Road Trails Closed to Equestrian, Bicycle Use During Rainy Season

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The 2014 Lunar Calendar starts Jan. 31 and will be celebrated as the “Year of the Horse.”
In Chinese astrology, the horse year is considered a fortunate year that brings luck and good things. The Magical Horse has supernatural powers, is heroic, strong, and can even fly.
It has long been known that the bond between horse and rider is perhaps the most sophisticated and intriguing example of cooperation between man and animal.
The Lake County Horse Council commends all horse enthusiasts and their equine partners.
Entering its fourth year in Lake County as a nonprofit, all-volunteer membership organization, the LCHC continues to promote the equine industry and recreation through coordination and support of local events, trails, equine facilities and related interests. Click here for entire article.

Horse Council Hosts Highland Springs Scavenger Hunt Trail Rally

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Horse Council offered up its second poker ride of the year on the beautiful trails of the Highland Springs Recreation Area Saturday, Nov. 16.
The group's first poker ride, "Save The Trails, Ride The Roads," which took place this past February, was held on the Old Toll Road to encourage staying off the trails during the wet season and was a tremendous success.
With the recent trail signage and map provided by the Highland Springs Trails Volunteers,

This month the Lake County Horse Council completed summer repairs of approximately 600 feet of the Lake Trail at Highland Springs Recreation Area in Lakeport.
One of the most popular hiking and riding trails in the county, the four-mile Lake Trail, circles the Highland Springs reservoir, and connects to many other trails in the park.
The trail sustained severe damage and erosion secondary to wet weather use and was in danger of being closed permanently due to safety.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Horse Council’s second annual Fiesta of the Horse was held on Sunday, June 30, drawing an enthusiastic crowd despite triple-digit temperatures.
More than 200 people enjoyed the shade in the spectator area.
Again the event was held at Rancho de la Fuente, on Soda Bay road outside of Lakeport.
Owners Frank and Rosana Perez rolled out the welcome mat, providing tents and chairs for the audience, and going the extra mile to be the most excellent hosts imaginable. They open up their beautiful ranch for this event at no charge, their gift to the community.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The 20th annual Kelseyville Pear Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street in historic downtown Kelseyville.
In the fall of 1993 the first Kelseyville Pear Festival was held.
The Kelseyville Business Association decided to feature one festival per year and to promote the agricultural heritage of the community. The festival has since grown in attendance from 1,500 the first year to 9,000 last year.
“We invite everyone to attend our festival in our friendly country town,” said Marilyn Holdenried, chairman and founder of the 20th annual Kelseyville Pear Festival...
